During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the USAF deployed F-16 Fighting Falcons for various missions, including close air support and air interdiction, with F-16C 90-0776 serving as the flagship for the 524 Fighter Squadron, known as “The Hounds,” and piloted by notable squadron commanders like Lt Col Tom Berghoff. Despite earning accolades like the Distinguished Flying Cross for their bravery, tragedy struck when this aircraft, flown by Maj.
