On March 20, 1991, as part of Operation Provide Comfort enforcing no-fly zones, Capt. Doneski, patrolling over Tikrit in a Combat Air Patrol, intercepted a pair of Su-22 aircraft. Engaging the formation, he successfully downed one Su-22 using an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile fired from the rear at close range. This mission exemplified the vigilance and effectiveness of U.S. forces in maintaining no-fly zones over Iraq during Operation Provide Comfort, demonstrating their commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and preventing hostile actions by Iraqi aircraft.
