On March 24, 1999, Lt Col Cesar Rodriguez achieved success in a counter-air mission supporting NATO operations in Yugoslavia, leading a four-ship F-15 OCA force targeting Montenegro Airfield. After detecting a MiG-29 at 62 miles range and awaiting AWACS confirmation to fire, he strategically jettisoned fuel tanks for speed, accelerated to Mach 1.4 at 30 miles range, and launched an AIM-120. The missile struck the target 41 seconds later, securing Lt Col Rodriguez’s third victory in an F-15, thereby emphasizing the aircraft’s effectiveness in the complex dynamics of the Kosovo War.
